The original drop-in cartridge reader replacement for CatGenie 120, 120+ and VIC Club litter boxes.
What it does
Presents a virtual cartridge.
Original CartridgeGenius replaces the cartridge tag reader in your CatGenie and simulates the presence of both the reader and the cartridge tag. Your CatGenie sees a virtual cartridge.
That lets you run without a cartridge, use a refilled cartridge, or keep a compatible box running if the original cartridge reader breaks down.
Controls
Manual control, or automatic reset.
- Insert or remove the virtual cartridge at the press of a button.
- Adjust the simulated cartridge level manually.
- Select 120 cycle, 60 cycle, or maintenance cartridge mode.
- Use Auto mode to reset and reinsert the virtual cartridge automatically.
Installation
For careful basic hardware work.
Installing Original CartridgeGenius means opening the CatGenie processing unit and connecting to internal low-voltage electronics. It is intended for owners who are comfortable using a screwdriver and following the manual carefully.
The device is supplied with the cable set needed for early and later 120-series boxes. On some early boxes, the original reader cable may fit, but using one of the supplied cables is recommended.
Because installation quality is outside my control, installation and use are at your own risk.
Warranty and returns
One year warranty on the device.
The original hand-assembled device has a one year warranty against defects, excluding mishandling. Shipping costs for warranty returns are not included.
If it does not work with a currently compatible CatGenie after support, the purchase price can be refunded after return. Shipment is not included. Compatibility with future CatGenie revisions or replaced boxes is not guaranteed.

Troubleshooting
Keep a working original cartridge and reader available if possible. They are useful tools when diagnosing CatGenie behavior.
Refill caution
Alternative detergents can harm silicone tubing. Test refilled or alternative solutions carefully before relying on them.
